Bratislava Castle

You might have heard some rumours about Bratislava being not that spectacular. Don’t believe anything you read because Bratislava has amazing sights that will most definitely blow your mind! So take your time to read this article before you decide whether you’d want to visit Bratislava or not.

Michael’s gate

The bulbous yet elegant copper roof of Michael’s Gate is one of the symbols of Bratislava. You can find it at the edge of the old town because it was one of the defence towers. The beautiful Baroque building has a history that dates back to the mid 14th century when it was built. It stands 51 metres tall which is why you can enjoy a superb view of the old town from the upper terrace of the tower! On the street that passes through the gate, you can find a so-called “zero kilometre” plate, listing the distances of 29 world capitals from Bratislava!

Bratislava Castle

The castle is probably the most famous sight in Bratislava and that’s for obvious reasons. The castle a rectangular shape and it’s not like anything I’ve seen before! The white-and-orange castle stands tall above the rest of the city but I highly recommend you walking up the hill to take a closer look. There are many fine details that you might miss otherwise.

Just 10 minutes away from Bratislava is a place you also can’t miss. Read it here!

Main square and old town hall

If you’re looking for a bit of history and culture, the main square is the place to go. At this square, you can find the old town hall, parts of which date back to the 15th century! The famous clock tower that’s attached to it can be seen from all over the inner city. The Maximillian Fountain is also worth a visit. According to legend, the knight on the statue looks towards the town hall throughout the entire year. But every new year at midnight, he spins around and bows in the direction of the former town hall. You can also visit one of the many musical events that, throughout the year, take place here.Old Town Hall Bratislava

Blue Church

This is my favourite sight in all of Bratislava!  So what is this blue church exactly? As you can probably tell by its name, it’s a church in blue. But this building is so much more spectacular than you think! The church has a very soft blue-tint and the architecture is very unique.  Take a look at these few photos and I’m sure you’ll fall in love with it.

Do you want to know what you also can’t miss when visiting Bratislava? Watching the sunrise! Take a look at this post for the best spot.

UFO bridge

You can visit many more historical buildings in the city of Bratislava but if that’s not your thing, don’t worry! The city offers many modern buildings that you’ll fall in love with. The most famous example is the UFO bridge or Novy Most. It was (and still is) a very controversial piece of art because the city’s synagogue, as well as many other buildings, had to be destroyed to build it. Still, it’s an admirable bridge that will make your visit to Bratislava complete!UFO bridge from castleUFO bridge Bratislava
